What is the GPA Calculator?
A Grade Point Average (GPA) is a single number that summarises your academic performance across all your courses, weighted by how many credit hours each course carries. A 4-credit course you scored well in pulls your GPA up more than a 1-credit elective, which is why GPA isn't simply the average of your grades — it's a weighted average.
How to Calculate
For each course, enter the grade points your institution assigns for the grade you received (commonly on a 4.0 scale, but this varies) along with that course's credit hours. Add a row for every course in the term or programme; the calculator multiplies each course's grade points by its credit hours, sums those up, and divides by the total credit hours to get your overall GPA.
Formula
GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) / Σ credit hours
Grade point scales vary by institution (commonly A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 on a 4-point scale) — enter the grade points your institution assigns, not the letter grade.
Worked Example
Two courses: a 4.0-grade-point course worth 3 credits, and a 3.0-grade-point course worth 3 credits, gives a GPA of 3.5.
