Volumetric Weight Calculator

Volumetric weight (also called dimensional weight) reflects how much space a parcel takes up rather than how heavy it is. Couriers introduced it because light, bulky packages — think a large box of pillows — would otherwise be priced far below what they actually cost the carrier to transport, since they fill a truck or plane by volume, not weight.

Measure the parcel's length, width and height in centimetres, then divide their product by the carrier's volumetric divisor — commonly 5000 for air and international courier shipments, sometimes 4000 or 6000 for domestic services. The result is the volumetric weight in kilograms, which you then compare against the actual weight; carriers always charge on whichever figure is higher.
