What is the Safe Withdrawal Rate Calculator?
The safe withdrawal rate is the percentage of a retirement corpus you can withdraw each year with a high probability of the money lasting through a long retirement — classically 4%, based on historical market studies. Unlike the retirement income calculator, which deliberately draws the corpus down to zero over a fixed number of years, a safe withdrawal rate is designed to preserve the corpus indefinitely by spending only a sustainable slice of it. The real risk it's guarding against is sequence-of-returns risk — withdrawing a fixed amount during a market downturn early in retirement can permanently damage a corpus in a way the same withdrawal wouldn't in a rising market.
How to Calculate
Enter your corpus size and your chosen withdrawal rate. The calculator multiplies the two for your annual withdrawal amount, and divides that by twelve for a monthly figure — many Indian planners use a more conservative 3–3.5% rather than the US-derived 4%, given India's historically higher inflation.
Formula
Withdrawal = Corpus × Rate%
