What is the Tip Calculator?

A tip is an extra amount paid on top of a bill to reward good service — common at restaurants, cafes and salons. In India, tipping is discretionary and typically ranges from 5–10%, though it's worth checking your bill first, since some restaurants already add a service charge, in which case an additional large tip isn't expected.

How to Calculate

Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage, and (if you're splitting the bill) the number of people sharing it. The calculator adds the tip to the bill to get the total, then divides that total evenly across everyone to show exactly how much each person owes.

Formula

Tip = Bill × Tip%

Per person = (Bill + Tip) / Number of people

Worked Example

A ₹1,000 bill with a 10% tip split between 2 people: tip = ₹100, total = ₹1,100, per person = ₹550.

How to Use

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Enter the tip percentage.
  3. Enter how many people are splitting the bill.
  4. Read the tip amount, total, and per-person share instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's a standard tip percentage in India?
There's no fixed norm u2014 many people tip 5-10% at restaurants where service isn't already included, though this varies widely by city and establishment. Check your bill for an already-included service charge before adding a tip.
Can I split unevenly between people?
This calculator splits the total evenly. For uneven splits (e.g. by what each person ordered), you'd need to calculate each person's share of the bill separately before applying the tip.
